Towel Tissues and Towel Tissue Usage

A paper towel is an absorbent material made from tissue paper instead of cloth. Unlike cloth towels, these products are disposable and intended to be used only once.

Paper towels soak up water because of their loosely-woven texture. This texture enables water to travel on a towel even against gravity. Once the products are ready, they can be individually packed or come in rolls.
These tissues have similar purposes to conventional towels. They can be used for drying hands, wiping windows, cleaning the dust, and cleaning up spills.

The Great Entrance To The Market and Developments

Paper towels were first introduced by the Scott Paper Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1907. These tissues were made to prevent the spread of colds, since they are disposable and only one person can use a sheet, illnesses cannot be transmitted.

To improve the products, a man called William Corbin started working on an absorbent and disposable tissue paper. In the end, they mass-produced them in 1922 and named the product “Nibroc Paper Towels”. Then in the following years, in 1931, the Scott Paper Company introduced their new paper towel roll for kitchens. Today, you can see those rolls almost in every home.

Consumption and the Demand

The United States of America is the number one consumer in the world. The use rates and the demand rised over the years. One of the main reasons for that is, folded towels are not hygienic and are impractical. This led folded towel use to a decrease, and use of paper towel roll an increase. Now, almost in every public bathroom, there is a towel dispenser for rolls.

Paper towels have second place in the tissue market following toilet paper. However, these versatile products are preferred to use in households for many purposes. So, the demand and the consumption rates are not far behind of the toilet paper category.

Conservation of paper towels and other tissue products is highest in the United States of America at approximately 24 kilograms per capita and year, 50% higher than in Europe and nearly 500% higher than in Latin America.
Opposed to America, people in the Middle East are more likely to prefer reusable cloth towels, and people in Europe tend to prefer reusable cleaning sponges.
